To the
MODEL YACHT (SAILING) SECTION
The history of the Club goes back several decades, to when the sophistication of the modern radio controlled (RC) model yachts could never have been imagined. Although the majority of club members sail RC model yachts, the Bournville Club has a dedicated membership who continue the tradition of free sailing or vane controlled model yachts - albeit, in some instances, using very modern technology and exotic construction materials. Many members enjoy both aspects of the pastime.

Some members enjoy sailing without the need to compete. For the many who are interested in radio controlled racing, there are several classes sailed at the Club including:
1 Metre (IOM); Marblehead (RM); 6 Metre (R6M); "A" Class (RA); 36" (R36R); Soling 1 Meter; Footy Class and 1.5 Metre, the latter being sailed only at Bournville.

In Vane sailing the Club concentrates mainly on 2 classes of yachts for competition use:
First, the internationally recognised Marblehead Class which is at the forefront of model yacht technology.
Second, by racing the vane version of the 36" Class.
The Club also maintains an interest in the larger "A" Class yachts.

The club, as well as hosting both national and district championships, promotes a series of club championship races throughout the year for many of the above classes, especially radio controlled versions.
Club membersip includes opted-in membership of the national Model Yachting Association which includes Public Liability Insurance cover. This is required to cover accidents to any third parties.

At Bournville members have the additional benefit of being able to sail on a stretch of water with 100% safe access around the whole lake edge.
The Model Yachting Section meets weekly throughout the year. On Wednesday mornings from 0930 to 1230 hrs for practice sessions, and at the same time on Sundays for racing.
Club members are friendly and helpful and are dedicated to encouraging and promoting the sailing and racing of model yachts.
